Such a useful little item. Just aim where you want the hole, push and there it is. Putting in a nail or screw after that is a cinch.
Other reviewers complain about the tip getting dull when used on metal, but then, you can hardly expect otherwise. If the tip were to be made of diamond, I imagine the price would be somewhat higher. So far, I have only used it on dry walls and wood and its been nothing but a useful little tool.
This is definitely going to have a permanent place in my tool belt.

Used this at an auto wrecking lot during E.M.T. training. Amazing how well it works, turned the driver side window into a hundred little cube-lets with only a slight amount of pressure. Be warned though, you will get little cuts on your hand from all the falling glass.

If you are looking for a great, high quality automatic center punch, you should probably look elsewhere. If you are looking for something that is usable, with no expectations of it lasting long, this may work for you.

These automatic center punches work great. This one did not have the hardened steel tip as advertised. I have had one of each before. They each work, but this type of tip will quickly deform if you use it on hard materials. Otherwise a great item.

It does a decent job of putting nice guide holes in soft wood and plastic. My attempts to use it on metal were disappointing.
