If you want something that can keep you in contact with your group for emergency purposes then this pretty much does the job. I tested it and it works pretty far. You can hear it and in the thick woods tell which direction it's coming from too.

Basic metal whistle - works, good price. If you need one, buy it. Cheap enough to put in different coats cars or RVs in case you get lost or in trouble and need to summon help.

I hurt my ear when I blew into this thing. It seems smaller than whistles I've held in the past. Works like a champ. Comes with a lanyard. I gave it to my kid to keep in her bag, just in case. Seems sturdy enough.

It comes with a lanyard and produces a high pitch sound. After using it for more than a week I can say the whistle is perfect.
